How to Make an Inception Deck for Beginners: Not-List, Trade-offs, and 6 Questions

A team of 4 to 7 starting a new project uses this template for beginners to answer 6 of the 10 inception deck questions in a half-day kickoff and agree on direction. Page 1 holds the project name, client, and timeline, why you are here (your words, then everyone's words, then one sentence), and the blanks of the elevator pitch (a 30-second summary). Page 2 sorts do, don't do, and decide later, checks doubtful items with the client, and sets the scope in one sentence. Page 3 lists the worries that keep you up at night with what you can do now, and ranks quality, deadline, scope, and budget with no ties. Page 4 gathers the neighbors (stakeholders), the first step, and the next four questions, with an owner and a date for each action in the first two weeks. The task board has five columns, from Get ready to Under way, with 4 parent tasks and 3 subtasks each. Tip - write alone first, then share and merge, and word the not-list and ranking with the client.
