Character Relationship Chart for Beginners: Map Your Novel or Manga Cast and How Ties Change

Novelists and manga writers with a tangled cast can use this beginner template to build a character relationship chart in one hour and plan foreshadowing. The whiteboard has 4 boards: board 1 sets the cast, character cards, and relationship stamps, board 2 links first-half relationships around the protagonist, board 3 builds the second-half chart to compare, and board 4 plans where to plant hints and which chapter pays them off. The task board has 4 columns, from Cast listed to Revised, with 4 parent tasks and 3 subtasks each. To make a character relationship chart, put the protagonist in the middle and write each relationship by its line in a few words, such as 'childhood friend'. Add lines between side characters with connectors by hand. Comparing the two charts shows which relationships change mid-story and which characters share a role, so you know what to fix before rewriting. Two hints per changing relationship keep later shifts from feeling sudden.
