Class Meeting for Beginners: Dot Voting Board to Pick a Class Party and Hear Minority Views Too
Homeroom teachers and class officers in upper elementary and middle school use this class meeting template for beginners to pick a class party idea by dot vote in a 45-minute meeting. The four whiteboard pages cover the topic, time, votes per person, and discussion phrases; game, food and drink, and performance ideas with reasons and hand counts in a table; vote ranks and the pros and cons of the top 2 ideas, plus what to take from low-vote ideas; and preparation steps, owners, deadlines, the schedule for the day, and a review date. The chair or teacher writes on the big screen, so students join just by raising a hand. Hand counts go in the table as numbers and dot stamps mark only top and low-vote ideas, so a class of about 30 can count easily. The task board has four columns - to decide, preparing, checking with the teacher, and ready - and holds 4 parent tasks with 3 subtasks each (16 in all).
