Usability Testing for Beginners: Watch 5 Users, Log Where They Struggle, Plan Fixes
First-time testers of their own site or app use this beginner usability testing template to watch 5 people, find hard-to-use spots, and set a fix order. Page 1 sets what to test and drafts 3 tasks plus 5 participant conditions, page 2 records a 5-person observation log while they think aloud, page 3 groups the stumbles into 3 islands and picks the top 3 to fix, and page 4 plans fixes and owners, reviews the test process with KPT, and sets up a retest. The task board runs 5 columns from preparing through retest check, holding 4 parent tasks tied to the 4 pages and 3 subtasks each. Even if you have never run a usability test, following the board from page 1 and reading the e.g. examples gets you through one full round of testing and a fix plan. A small group of testers often stumbles at the same spot, so try it with 5 people first, then retest the same task after fixing it. Useful for a personal website, a small team's app, or reviewing an internal tool.
