How to Make an Escape Game for Beginners: Design the Puzzle Chain, Test It, and Run the Day

Student clubs, neighborhood groups, and workplace teams new to making escape games use this template for beginners to design the puzzle chain in one flow and run the whole day as a team. The whiteboard has 4 pages: players, time, and venue; the 6-step puzzle flow and design table; playtest logs sorted by difficulty; and the day's schedule, roles, and troubleshooting. The task board has 3 columns - In Progress, Awaiting Playtest, Done - with 4 parent tasks for the 4 pages and 3 subtasks each, all starting in In Progress with due date and assignee left blank. Even without puzzle-design experience, rewriting the e.g. notes with your own event details walks you through everything from the story to the day-of answer reveal. Co-edit this board with your team using limited sharing, and publish a separate board without the answers as the public guide for participants. Venue safety isn't covered here, so follow your venue's own rules.
